The Best Diets for Summer

Summer is coming. Yes, we know it can be nerve wracking and exciting all at the same time! We love summer because of all the family time and adventures we get to go on, but also... swimsuit season. Everyone is trying to get ready for long hot days, and of course get your summer bod. It can be tough to find the right routine and stick to it. Eating and living a healthy lifestyle is very important not only to lose weight, but to keep it off and help prevent health issues further down the road. With so many different diets and “healthy” choices out there, it’s not easy to find the right one that is going to fit your busy schedule – and life. So many different companies are advertising that their diet is the best and the easiest. Although they may be a quick fix, it might not keep the weight off in the long run. Having to order a specific diet's pre-made meals gets pricy. Plus, here at North Shore Living, we are all about making home cooked meals and spending that quality time with loved ones.

To save everyone the trouble of researching the best diets and lifestyles, we’ve done the work for you! We found the top 3 diets/healthy lifestyles that might be your new way of living. These are the top 3 ranked diets of 2019 according to U.S. News. So let’s get into it!

Ranking at number 3, is the Flexitarian Diet. It’s the combination of the two words, flexible and vegetarian. This diet is exactly what you are thinking – someone who lives a vegetarian lifestyle but every now and then can grub on a nice juicy burger or steak. This diet is pretty easy to follow in the sense that you are mainly eating anything that’s not meat. So if you have always wanted to be vegetarian, but don’t want to give up meat completely, this is a good way to go. We have even tested a recipe for you that is Flexitarian so you can try it out! Our Spicy Roasted Cauliflower Wraps has lots of flavor with a little kick to it!

Runner up is the DASH diet. DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. This diet is to help stop high blood pressure (hypertension). On this diet you focus mainly on eating fruits, veggies, low fat dairy, only lean meats, and whole grains. That means no full fat dairy, sugars, saturated fats, or anything that’s typically in processed foods. While it is easy to find DASH recipes, it can be time consuming because you have to plan your meals. Eating out can be slightly difficult, but just be careful of what you order. Pay close attention to what’s in the meal and even ask how it’s prepared. Here is a recipe we created that is DASH approved – try our Tomato Topped Halibut!

The one you’ve been waiting for, the winner of the best diets for 2019, the Mediterranean Diet! Now you’re probably thinking, that’s not keto?! No friend, it’s not! The Mediterranean Diet is one you’re going to LOVE. It’s pretty simple actually. It’s based on how the people who live along the Mediterranean Sea live and eat. Such as the Greeks and Italians. They eat foods that are low in red meats, saturated fats, and no sugar. A  lot of proteins, whole grains, fruits, and veggies. So when we say this diet is simple and easy to follow, we mean it! An active lifestyle is an important part of this diet – and in life. Going for walks on your breaks at work or going to the gym is going to be super beneficial. The best part of this diet, the wine! They say you are allowed to have a little bit of wine a day! It’s about 3 oz. for women and about 5 oz. for men. If you aren’t sure what kind of recipes to make for this diet try making our Mediterranean Salad! It’s filling and so refreshing!

We hope these three diets will help you figure out what healthy lifestyle is right for you! Let us know which one you choose and keep us updated on how it’s going! Comment below of tag us on Instagram @north.shore.living
